Dancing with Dogs (Canine Freestyle)in Albuquerque, New MexicoWhat is Dancing with Dogs (also known as canine freestyle)? It's just about the most fun you can have with your dog, and your dog will think so too. Dogs enjoy learning -- in fact, in order to live a full, well-balanced life, they need mental stimulation just as much as physical exercise. Canine freestyle provides the opportunity for both in a relaxed, non-stressful atmosphere that's rewarding to both the canine and human partner. Dancing with dogs also strengthens the bond between them which carries over to other dog sports and even everyday life together. There are several definitions that have been coined by canine freestyle organizations. Basically though, you teach your dog some foundation moves such as circling around you, spinning in place, trotting at your side, weaving between your legs, etc. You then choose music that compliments the look of your dog and that you move to comfortably. The next step is to design (choreograph) a routine to the music, using the moves you've previously trained. Now you're ready to dance with your dog! If that all sounds a little daunting to do on your own, that's what Dancing Paws is for. We offer classes and private lessons that will take you through all the steps to enjoying this fun activity. You and your canine partner might be content to dance in your living room for your own enjoyment. Or you might like to perform for an audience. Community events are always looking for entertainment. If you and your dog are a therapy team, a dance enhances any therapy visit. If you really get hooked on the fun of dancing with your dog, you can even compete for titles in video or live venues. An Albuquerque club devoted to the art and sport of canine freestyle is Rio Grande Canine Freestylers. Watch dancing with dogs videos on YouTube. Search on "Canine Freestyle".
